Charger soccer stays dominant at home

Charger goalie Gautier Ramont posted a shutout against Kankakee Sept. 4. Carl Sandburg won 4-0.

Luis Garcia scored two goals as the Chargers shut out Kankakee 4-0 on Sept. 4. Pablo Albiach and Mateo Figueroa added goals for Sandburg. Goalie Gautier Ramont held Kankakee scoreless.

The win improved the Chargers to 3-0 at home, where they have outscored opponents 14-1.

Soccer

In the first of six straight road games, Sandburg dropped a 3-1 decision to Truman. The loss leaves the team with a 3-2 overall record.

Cross country

The Chargers men’s and women’s cross-country runners joined Kaskaskia as the only two NJCAA competitors in the Prairie Stars Invitational on Sept. 4 in Springfield.

The men placed 10th among 11 teams with 298 points, while the women were ninth among 10 teams with 289 points.

Both squads return to action Sept. 19 at the Bradley Intercollegiate.

Volleyball

Indian Hills, ranked 19th in NJCAA Division I, dropped the Sandburg women’s volleyball team in straight sets — 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 — on Sept. 4 in Ottumwa, Iowa, leaving the Chargers with a 5-6 season record.

Madalynn Knapp contributed six kills for Sandburg.
