About 20 volunteers spent Wednesday morning sprucing up Full Viewpoint Park at the corner of Kellogg and Ferris streets, raking accumulated leaves from bushes, pruning shrubs and perennials, mowing and sweeping the park, and filling approximately 25 barrels with leaves and trimmings.
“It was a great morning for a spring cleaning of Full Viewpoint Park,” said Tom Simkins, special projects coordinator for the city of Galesburg. “About 20 ‘get ’er done’ volunteers raked, pruned, mowed and swept roughly 25 barrels of leaves and trimmings from the park in about an hour. Thanks to everyone for helping beautify Galesburg.”

The city’s special projects coordinator position focuses on organizing community-driven improvement efforts, particularly in public parks and urban forestry. The role oversees initiatives such as Project 350 — a multi-year effort to expand Galesburg’s tree canopy — along with park improvement projects and volunteer coordination across the city.
Since 2022, more than 600 trees have been planted through Project 350, according to city information.
