
Swimming: Galesburg 98, Metamora 82
Galesburg’s girls swim team continued to dominate area swimming with a 98-82 victory over visiting Metamora High School Co-op Oct. 7.
The Silver Streaks remained undefeated this season at 8-0. The team will be at United Township Oct. 11 for a swimming and diving competition at the Panther Invite, then return for a home dual meet with Moline.

Galesburg is at home for its next two games: Oct. 9 vs. Washington and Oct. 11 vs. Pekin. After that, the Streaks have three regular-season games before competing Oct. 21 in the IHSA regionals.

Volleyball: United Township 2, Galesburg 0
United Township defeated the Silver Streaks in Galesburg in two sets, 25-18, 25-23. The loss leaves the Streaks at 7-12 for the season and 2-8 in the Western Big 6. United Township won its third in a row to raise its records to 14-11 and 3-7.
Galesburg is at Dixon Oct. 11 and Dunlap Oct. 13 before returning home to face Geneseo Oct. 14.

Soccer: Quincy 3, Galesburg 1
The Blue Devils ended the Silver Streaks’ three-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory Oct. 7 in Quincy. The loss dropped Galesburg to 6-8-1 for the season.

Men’s golf: 4th at Arrowhead Conference
Kenny Hoosen fired three rounds in the 70s and earned a spot on the all-conference team at the Arrowhead Conference Championship Oct. 6-7 at PrairieView in Byron.
The Sandburg men’s golf team placed fourth in the standings and was led by Hoosen, who tied for eighth individually at 13 over par for the 54-hole championship.
A sophomore from East Peoria, Hoosen opened with a 3-over 75 in Monday’s opening round and added a 76 that afternoon. He finished the tournament with a round of 78 as the Chargers wrapped up their fall schedule.
Sophomore Tanner Wake, a member of last year’s all-conference team, tied for 18th and put up three counting scores for the Chargers with rounds of 77, 77 and 82 to finish at 20 over for the tournament.
Black Hawk shot a 297 in the final round and 896 for the tournament to win the conference title by eight shots over Highland. Sauk Valley was third at 938, while the Chargers came in at 954. Illinois Valley (997) and Kishwaukee (1,018) finished behind Sandburg.

Men’s golf: Knox 11th at Central Fall Classic
Knox College senior Pranav Nandakumar wrapped up his 36 holes at the Central Fall Classic in third place overall, carding a 70-77—147 (+3) to lead the Prairie Fire to an 11th-place finish in the 16-team field Oct. 6-7.
As a team, Knox came into the clubhouse with a 657 (+81) at the Bos Landen Golf Resort in Pella, Iowa, while the University of Dubuque won the team title by 13 strokes over host Central College at 23 over par.
Other Knox finishers included Nathaniel Zug, 54th, 167; Gabe Newman, 67th, 172; Jaxson Forman, 71st, 174; and Saransh Raina, 79th, 180.
Dubuque took the team title, led by individual champion John Dobbe’s 144.
Knox is back in action Oct. 25-26 when it hosts the Prairie Fire Fall Classic at the Soangetaha Country Club.
Volleyball: Rockford 3, Knox 0
Two weeks after defeating the Rockford University Regents on the road, the Knox College volleyball team could not duplicate its success, falling at Memorial Gymnasium Oct. 7 in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19.
For the Prairie Fire (2-19), it was their third straight loss, while Rockford improved to 3-8 with its first sweep of the season. Elle Haddon led all players with 10 kills while adding 11 digs for her first career double-double. The Regents posted 37 kills and an .163 attack percentage, while the Prairie Fire were limited to 24 kills and an .025 attack percentage.
Knox continues its eight-match home stand Oct. 11 when it hosts Midwest Conference foe Beloit College (2-14, 0-3 MWC).
