Volleyball: Galesburg 2, Streator 0
Galesburg’s volleyball team took charge from the opening moments of play and dominated Streator 25-15, 25-9 on Oct. 27 to advance from the quarterfinals to the semifinals of the Galesburg Regional.

The Silver Streaks will meet No. 2 seed LaSalle-Peru, which drew a bye in the quarterfinal, at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 in Galesburg. No. 3 Metamora will take on No. 6 Geneseo in the other Galesburg Regional semifinal at 7 p.m.

Galesburg came out loose and determined in Set 1, which saw them build an early lead and continue to roll.

“There were a couple of things that we could have cleaned up a little bit better,” head coach Nicole Kisler said after the win, “but they were happy; they were excited; they were ready to play this tournament. I just feel like they’re playing together really well right now.”

Evelin Guel, 11, goes high to set up a return for her teammates in the Streaks’ quarterfinals victory in the Galesburg Regional.

The second set went even better for the Streaks. After momentarily falling behind early in the set, they took eight straight points and pulled away to take the set and match.

“I encouraged them to have a lot of fun tonight and really just play their game no matter what,” Kisler said. “So, I was really proud of them for that.”

Because of injuries and illness, Kisler said she switched some players around for this game.

“The girls have really put it together,” she said. “Whether or not they’re in this position or that position, they know they have to play volleyball, and they’re doing it really well.”

She said she had not seen upcoming opponent LaSalle-Peru play, but she knows they are a solid team.

Taylor Adams, 5, makes a save on an errant ball during Galesburg’s match with Streator on Oct. 7.

“I think it’ll be a really good match. I think there’s a lot of things that we can take from them. So, I’m looking forward to it. I really want another win and get to that championship game.”

Against Streator, Taylor Herchenroder had eight kills and Taylor Adams had five. Adams had two service aces, and Ella Herchenroder had one. Ella Herchenroder also had one block. Grace Herchenroder had 11 digs, and Ella Herchenroder had nine.

The winners of Galesburg-LaSalle-Peru and Metamora-Geneseo will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in Galesburg.
