Soccer: Galesburg 0, Orion 0
Galesburg’s boys soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie at Orion on Oct. 13. The Silver Streaks close their home season Oct. 14 with senior night against Rock Island — the team they will face Oct. 21 in the IHSA Regionals at Peoria Stadium.

The Streaks end the regular season Oct. 15 at Sterling. It will be the team’s third game in three days.

Knox College

Men’s soccer: Knox 3, Ripon 3
The Knox College men’s soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the first half at Ripon on Saturday afternoon, but the Prairie Fire scored the next three goals before intermission, only to have the host Red Hawks rally to tie the game in the second half for a 3-3 draw.

Knox is now 6-3-4 on the season and 2-2-1 in the Midwest Conference; Ripon moves to 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the league.

The only other match like it was the 2024 Midwest Conference Tournament semifinal against Illinois College that ended in a 3-3 tie. However, the Blueboys won a shootout to advance to the finals and knock out the Prairie Fire.

Knox travels to Cornell College (4-7-1, 2-1-1 MWC) for a key showdown Oct. 15.

Women’s soccer: Knox 0, Ripon 0
In a defensive struggle, the Knox College women’s soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Ripon College on Saturday, snapping a six-game skid in the process.

The Prairie Fire (3-8-2, 0-4-1 Midwest Conference) and Red Hawks (3-6-4, 1-1-2 MWC) combined for just eight shots in the contest, only four of which were on goal as the defenses stood out.

Knox is 0-2-2 against Ripon in the last four seasons and has not scored in any of those matchups (while allowing just two goals), but the team is 5-2-4 in the last 11 meetings. The last Prairie Fire win in the series was a 6-0 romp on Oct. 16, 2021.

Knox has a tough assignment up next with Lawrence (5-4-5, 3-1-1 MWC) coming to town Oct. 18.
