Volleyball: Blackburn 3, Knox 0
After a five-set win at Rockford University and a sweep of Principia College last week, the Knox College volleyball team could not keep the momentum going as it fell to visiting Blackburn on Tuesday evening at Memorial Gymnasium in straight sets, 25-18, 25-7, 25-17.
The Battlin’ Beavers improved to 6-9 on the season, while the Prairie Fire dropped to 2-17. This was the third straight sweep for Blackburn in the series since Knox won three of the first four meetings.
Senior Amelia Gamez and junior Elle Haddon each had five of the Prairie Fire’s 18 kills in the match.
Knox next plays the third of eight straight home matches Oct. 3 with the Midwest Conference opener as Illinois College (4-12, 0-0 MWC) comes to Memorial Gymnasium.
Women’s soccer: Illinois College 5, Knox 1
The Knox College women’s soccer team was unable to slow down visiting Illinois College at Jorge Prats Field Sept. 30 as the Lady Blues left town with a 5-1 victory over the Prairie Fire.
The win lifted Illinois College to 6-5-2 on the season and 2-0 in Midwest Conference play, while Knox fell to 3-6-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.
After Illinois College jumped to a 3-0 lead, Sophia Gordoa scored Knox’s lone goal. Illinois College added two goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.
The Prairie Fire have lost four straight since a four-match unbeaten streak. Next up is a road match at Beloit College (1-7-2, 0-1-1 MWC) Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
Galesburg High School Sports

Volleyball: Galesburg 2, Alleman 0
The Galesburg volleyball team evened its season record with a two-set victory over visiting Alleman Sept. 30.
The Silver Streaks took a quick first set, 25-10, then held off the Pioneers in set two, 25-22.
The victory puts Galesburg at 8-8 overall for the season and 2-6 in the Western Big 6.
Galesburg travels to Rock Island Oct. 2 before hosting United Township Oct. 7.
Boys soccer: Galesburg 3, Geneseo 2
The Silver Streaks boys soccer team scored three times in the first half, then held off a rally from Western Big 6 rival Geneseo to post a 3-2 home victory Sept. 30.

Anthony Makwala scored two goals for Galesburg, and Franklin Hilligoss added a third.
The Streaks are 4-7-1 on the season and 1-3 in the conference. Geneseo is now 1-13.
Galesburg will host the second of three consecutive home matches Oct. 2 against East Peoria. Monmouth-Roseville comes to town Oct. 4.

Swimming: Galesburg 120, United Township 45
The Galesburg girls swim team dominated United Township 120-45 Sept. 30 by taking first and second places in nine of 12 events in Moline.
Macie Nelson won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and was a member of the first-place 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams. Lily Furrow won the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and was a member of the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
The swim team is off until it competes at Metamora Oct. 7.

Men’s golf: Chargers 11th at Battle of the Mississippi
Brayden Schleich, Blake Harvey and Tanner Wake each recorded a round of 78 in the Sandburg men’s golf team’s stay at the Battle of the Mississippi Sept. 29-30 at Fyre Lake in Sherrard.
Northeast (291-297—588) edged Black Hawk and Heartland by one stroke to win the tournament. Northeast’s Darcy Whyle was medalist with a 36-hole score of 1 over par, beating Heartland’s Tommy Gneiser by a shot.
Sandburg placed 11th among the 14 teams competing. Harvey and Schleich each posted 159 for the tournament to finish 44th. Wake was 60th with a two-day total of 167.
The Chargers will compete Oct. 6-7 in the Arrowhead Conference Championship at PrairieView Golf Club in Byron.
