Kisler’s 30 points lead Sandburg past Illinois College JV
Antonia Kisler scored 30 points to lead the Sandburg women’s basketball team to a 96-68 win over visiting Illinois College JV on Jan. 5.

It was the second 30-point outing of the season for Kisler, who had a career-high 33 in the Chargers’ season opener. In Monday’s win over the Lady Blues, the sophomore from Galesburg went 9-for-17 from the field, hit 2 of 4 from 3-point range and went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Kisler also had nine rebounds and five assists for the Chargers, who led 47-37 at halftime before extending the margin by outscoring Illinois College JV 28-15 in the third quarter. The win was Sandburg’s fourth in its last five games.

Freshman Hailey Redding, coming off a 26-point outing Saturday at Bryant & Stratton, added 20 points for Sandburg. The freshman from Abingdon-Avon High School finished 8-for-13 from the field and connected on two 3-pointers.

All 12 players who suited up for the Chargers scored at least one field goal. Abbie Ackers and Tiera Hall each scored seven points, while Ryleigh Clark and Lajaya Angel added six apiece.

Freshman Camryn Atterberg pulled down nine rebounds to tie Kisler for the team lead.

Sandburg shot 49% (33-for-67) from the field and went 10-for-28 from beyond the arc. The Chargers also made 20 of 25 free throws.

Sandburg’s next game is at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Kishwaukee.

Sandburg women open 2026 with loss to Bryant & Stratton
The Carl Sandburg women’s basketball team opened the 2026 portion of its schedule with an 87-81 loss on Jan. 3 at Bryant & Stratton.

Freshman Hailey Redding hit six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, one shy of her season high. Tiera Hall added 18 points and 14 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and eighth of the season. The 18 points tied Hall’s season high.

Strong second half boosts Sandburg men past Monmouth JV
The Sandburg men’s basketball team limited visiting Monmouth JV to 15 second-half points as the Chargers earned a 77-51 win over the Fighting Scots on Jan. 5.

Sandburg led 42-36 at halftime before outscoring Monmouth JV 35-15 after intermission. The win was the Chargers’ third straight and their fourth in the past five games.

Rylan Carton led Sandburg with 18 points on 8-for-16 shooting. Fellow freshman Gavin Grothaus also reached double figures, scoring 10 points on a 5-for-8 night from the field. Grothaus added seven rebounds, six on the offensive glass.

The Chargers set season highs in total rebounds (54) and offensive rebounds (22). Sophomore Keauntrey Barnes led the way with a season-best 18 rebounds. He also scored eight points and handed out five assists.

Sophomore Camron Williams grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, half of them offensive. Williams added seven points off the bench, including a 3-pointer.

Sandburg’s next game is at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Kishwaukee.
