By Galesburg Community News    April 10, 2026

A growing regional Scrabble tournament will bring players from across North America to Galesburg this weekend, including a national champion and several top-ranked competitors.

The Galesburg Spring Fling tournaments are scheduled for April 11–12 at the Galesburg Community Arts Center, 349 E. Main St. The event will feature multiple divisions and dozens of players, including several ranked among the top 50 competitors on the continent.

Among those expected to attend is 2023 North American Scrabble champion Josh Sokol, who will compete and participate in live commentary during the event.

The weekend will conclude April 13 with a National Scrabble Day livestream, part of an annual celebration of the game that draws viewers from around the world.

Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman, who has helped grow the local Scrabble community, said the event continues to build momentum.

“There’s a real energy building around Scrabble in Galesburg,” Schwartzman said. “We’ve got great players, a fantastic community, and a city that loves to welcome visitors. This weekend is about competition, connection and showing people what Galesburg is all about.”

The tournaments are sanctioned by the Word Game Players’ Organization and are open to players of all skill levels, including newcomers.
