The Galesburg Tourism & Visitors Bureau has named Sarah Smith as its new director, effective Jan. 12.

Smith most recently worked in tourism marketing in Clinton, Iowa, where she led promotional efforts for a community similar in size to Galesburg.

In her new role, Smith will oversee tourism strategy for the Galesburg area, including promotion of local events, businesses and visitor experiences. She will also represent the community at regional, state and national levels and work with partners to support tourism-related economic activity.

“The GTVB Board of Directors is excited to welcome Sarah to Galesburg,” said Denise Gerstenberger, vice president of the bureau’s board. “She brings experience and a fresh perspective to the organization.”

Smith said her initial focus will be on connecting with the community and working with local businesses and residents.

“When residents feel engaged and businesses feel supported, tourism becomes more authentic,” Smith said.
