Deborah Moreno

Publisher and Editor
Deborah Moreno is the publisher and editor of Galesburg Community News, where she leads the organization’s editorial direction and reports on local issues.
Moreno began her journalism career at The Register-Mail as an education reporter and later covered broader community topics, including public health, faith communities and civic life. She also wrote a regular family column and, more recently, reported for Tri States Public Radio News.
In the intervening years, she taught writing, literature and journalism at Knox College and Carl Sandburg College. A Knox College graduate, Moreno has lived in Galesburg for more than 30 years with her husband, Alex. Together they have operated a family business and raised five children in the community GCN serves.
Loran Lewis

Reporter
Loran Lewis has decades of experience as a newspaper reporter and editor.
He began his career at a weekly newspaper in Tuscola, Illinois, and later worked in news organizations in several markets, including Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Lewis also taught journalism at community colleges and universities, including California State University, Fresno, and Iowa State University.
Now in semi-retirement, he returned to his home state of Illinois in June 2025.
Talbot Fisher

Talbot Fisher has lived most of his life in Galesburg. He previously reported for The Register-Mail and is particularly interested in local history and community issues. Fisher is raising his family in Galesburg.
Mike Trueblood

Feature Writer
Mike Trueblood writes feature stories for Galesburg Community News after spending more than 40 years in local journalism at The Galesburg Register-Mail.
A Belvidere, Illinois, native, he studied at Rock Valley Junior College and Northern Illinois University. Over his career he covered sports at every level, from local schools and colleges to major professional teams, and reported on events including the World Series and Major League Baseball All-Star Games.
A multiple Associated Press and Illinois Press Association award winner, Trueblood was inducted into the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.

Maeve Reilly has spent more than 25 years working in higher education communications. She contributes reporting on Galesburg’s arts and cultural community.
Carson Olson

Carson Olson is a 2025 graduate of Galesburg High School. As a senior, he created a website featuring local high school sports statistics to highlight athletes’ accomplishments and expand access to community sports information. He is pursuing a degree in education at McKendree University.
