Nova Singers and the Galesburg Community Chorus will join forces for two performances of Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem later this month.
The concerts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at First Lutheran Church, 364 E. Water St., Galesburg, and 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., Davenport, Iowa.
The performance will mark the first collaboration between Nova Singers, directed by Dr. Laura Lane, and the Galesburg Community Chorus, directed by Dr. Tim Pahel. The concert also concludes Nova Singers’ 40th season.
Lane said the Duruflé work was selected for its musical range and emotional depth.

“I chose the Duruflé Requiem for this event because it is unbelievably beautiful,” Lane said. “It has quiet, intimate moments that swell into huge, powerful climaxes. Every melody is inspired by chant, yet this is the sweetest chant you will ever hear.”
Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble based at Knox College, is known for its intimate concert style and varied repertoire. The ensemble will also open the program with audience favorites.
The Galesburg Community Chorus, now in its 80th year, is the region’s oldest continuing performing arts organization. The chorus provides local singers opportunities to perform major choral works and brings large-scale performances to west-central Illinois audiences.
Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $20 for adults and $17 for seniors ages 62 and older. Students will be admitted free.
