Mark Thomas has been named the recipient of the 2025 Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award, presented Monday at the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce’s 47th Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at Cedar Creek Hall.

The award honors individuals who show exceptional leadership and dedication to the Galesburg community. He began his public service career as a deputy coroner in 1998 and is known for his compassion while supporting families through difficult circumstances.

Thomas and his wife, Tricia, own Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and recently expanded their business with the purchase of Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. He is active in several community organizations, including the Ambulance Board, Lions Club, Crimestoppers, the YMCA, local cemetery boards, and Elks Lodge #894.

The luncheon also featured a State of the City address from City Manager Eric Hanson and a keynote from United Way of West Central Illinois representative Jeannie Weber.
