Knox College has named Scott Jones, a longtime higher-education finance administrator, as its next chief financial officer and vice president for finance, effective Feb. 3.

Jones comes to Knox from Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he has served since 2021 as vice president for administration and finance. His appointment comes as Knox faces ongoing financial pressures tied to enrollment, costs and long-term planning.
Jones has more than 25 years of senior financial management experience in higher education, much of it at liberal arts institutions. Before joining Union, he held finance leadership roles at Colby College and the University of Virginia.
Former Knox CFO Alec Guroff left the college over the summer. Since then, Knox has partnered with a retired chief financial officer and financial consultant to oversee financial matters while conducting a search for a permanent replacement, according to the college.
At Knox, Jones will oversee budgeting, investment activities, financial planning and analysis, and will supervise the college’s business office, finance teams and human resources.
Knox President C. Andrew McGadney said Jones’ experience will be critical as the college plans for the future.
“His deep experience and financial acumen will be invaluable as the college navigates this challenging moment and plans for its future,” McGadney said.
Jones said he is focused on helping Knox navigate a difficult and competitive higher-education landscape while maintaining the college’s mission.
Jones earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a master of business administration degree from the College of William and Mary. He and his wife, Juli, plan to relocate to Galesburg.
