The Kids Rock the Arts Contest will showcase artwork by local students during the Knox County Scenic Drive at Walnut Grove Farm.

The exhibit, sponsored by Blick Art Materials and the Galesburg Community Arts Center, features two-dimensional pieces created by artists from kindergarten through 12th grade. The work will be displayed in the Barn’s Gallery on both weekends of the drive, Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 11-12.

Art educator Zoe Rose will serve as juror for the contest. Winners will receive Blick gift certificates, and all participating students will receive art supply grab bags provided by Blick.

Rose, a Knox College graduate with a background in sculpture, mixed media and installation art, also works as education coordinator and exhibitions coordinator/registrar at the Galesburg Community Arts Center. She is active in the local arts scene as both a visual artist and a jazz, blues and neo-soul vocalist.

Jan King owns and runs Walnut Grove Farm. “Art is strong in our community,” she said. We love to see what young people create. With encouragement from teachers and families, Blick, and the Community Arts Center, kids are given wings to discover their talents.”

The Knox County Scenic Drive is a self-guided fall foliage tour that attracts thousands of visitors each year. For a full event schedule, go to www.Barn-Fest.com or call 309-337-5354.
