The Silver Streaks won the IHSA sectional Feb. 21 at United Township High School, claiming four event titles and outscoring 12 other teams to capture the team championship.

Brayden McGuire won two individual events as Galesburg captured the IHSA sectional title Feb. 21 at United Township.

Galesburg scored 249 points to finish ahead of runner-up Dunlap (222).

Sophomore Brayden McGuire led the way, winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. McGuire captured the 200 IM in 1 minute, 58.91 seconds, defeating Rock Island’s Nathan Anderson, who had beaten McGuire at the conference championships two weeks earlier.

“Anderson beat him pretty handily in the same event two weeks ago at the conference championships,” Galesburg coach Jake Miller said.

McGuire won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.71.

Galesburg opened the swimming portion of the meet with a sectional title in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Cole Furrow, McGuire, Nolan Good and Mahmoud Shehata finished in 1:40.53 to secure 32 team points.

The Streaks closed the meet in similar fashion, winning the 400 freestyle relay. Shehata, McGuire, Good and Furrow combined for a time of 3:22.38.

“Time drops in this meet were outstanding,” Miller said. “Most importantly, every GHS swimmer in the meet scored in every event they swam. This is my favorite accomplishment.”

Freshman Sam Puerta added a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.12) and placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:08.25).

Other key scoring performances included:
Cole Furrow finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.56) and third in the 100 backstroke (57.20).
Mahmoud Shehata placed third in the 100 freestyle (51.56) and sixth in the 50 freestyle (23.06).
