
Galesburg rallied with an eight-run fourth inning but could not hold off a United Township comeback April 8, falling 10-9 on a seventh-inning walk-off in East Moline.
It was a difficult loss for the Silver Streaks, who had struggled offensively in recent games.
Galesburg trailed 6-1 before breaking through in the fourth, sending eight runs across to take a 9-6 lead. The Silver Streaks managed just one hit over the final three innings, however, and United Township answered with three runs in the fifth before scoring the winning run in the seventh.
Alfred Ayala led Galesburg at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Caden Riley, Nicolas Ojeda and Noah Nalley added one hit apiece. The Silver Streaks finished with five hits and were aided by four walks and seven hit batters.
Galesburg drove in seven runs. Grady Hickey, Henry Ikrami, Riley, Hayden Ralston, Gabe Irizarry, Nalley and Ayala each had an RBI. Drew Hickey also scored a run and stole a base.
On the mound, Ojeda worked two innings and allowed one run while striking out three. Nalley threw three innings in relief, giving up three runs and striking out three. TJ Heatherly allowed six runs, four earned, in one inning, and Caleb Claeys recorded the final out.
United Township finished with six hits and took advantage of 10 walks and seven stolen bases. D. Stottler led the Panthers with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs, while Will Risius scored three runs. Riley Short earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief.
The loss was the Silver Streaks’ seventh straight and dropped them to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the Western Big 6. United Township improved to 6-5 and 2-2.
Galesburg’s junior varsity team won 14-9 to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The Silver Streaks return home April 11 for a doubleheader against Morton. Game 1 is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Galesburg piled up 14 hits and scored 12 runs, but Quincy answered with a 10-run fifth inning to hand the Silver Streaks a 15-12 Western Big 6 softball loss April 6.
The game had been rescheduled from April 2 because of stormy weather. Galesburg led 11-4 after scoring six runs in the third inning and adding three more in the fourth, but the Blue Devils turned the game around with their big fifth inning and added another run in the sixth.
The Silver Streaks scored once in the first inning, added another in the second and broke the game open in the third. They finished with 14 hits, drew nine walks and committed five errors.
Taylor Lee led Galesburg at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Mary Moore also had a big game, finishing 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Hannah Barton went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Avayah Bridgewater and Tamryn Davis had two hits each.

Mavery Bland scored three runs for the Silver Streaks, and Layla Shepler added an RBI.
Lee pitched all six innings for Galesburg, allowing 10 hits and 15 runs, 10 earned. She struck out 10 and walked seven.
The Silver Streaks, 3-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play, host Sterling at 4:30 p.m. April 9 and Canton at 4:30 p.m. April 10.

Black Hawk scored six unanswered runs over the final three innings April 7 to break open a tie game and hand Carl Sandburg a 9-3 loss in a nine-inning Arrowhead Conference baseball game.
The Chargers were tied 3-3 in the sixth after scoring twice, but Black Hawk answered with a run in the seventh, four in the eighth and one more in the ninth to pull away.
Sandburg took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. A pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third with one out, and Kodyn Knecht’s ground ball to third was misplayed, allowing Landon Binder to score.
The Braves moved in front 3-1 before the Chargers rallied to tie the game in the sixth. With Colton Allen on second, Black Hawk committed an error on Jameson Dickerson’s grounder to second, allowing Allen to score. Carter Ramsey followed with a single, and Knecht lined a base hit to right to bring home Dickerson with the tying run.
Chuck Hathaway took the loss for Sandburg despite working into the seventh inning. The Chargers starter allowed three earned runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings, struck out one and walked three.

Dickerson led Sandburg at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Carl Sandburg is scheduled to play April 9 at Southeastern, with first pitch moved to 3 p.m.
