
Galesburg High School has a long-standing reputation for strong sports programs and passionate student-athletes. The 2024–25 season was no exception. Teams across all seasons showed grit, talent, and determination, with many athletes competing at state championships throughout the year.
Let’s take a look back at some of the Silver Streaks’ biggest accomplishments.
🏅 Girls Swimming: Fall 2024 IHSA State Finals
Junior Lily Furrow represented GHS at the IHSA Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals, placing 34th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.22 seconds.
Furrow has now qualified for the state meet in both her sophomore and junior seasons. She was named Western Big 6 Swimmer of the Year in fall 2023 and is expected to be a standout her senior year.


🏅 Boys Wrestling: Winter IHSA State Wrestling Championships

Three Galesburg wrestlers advanced to the IHSA State Wrestling Championships, proving that hard work and consistency pay off.

🏅 Girls Wrestling: Winter IHSA Girls State Wrestling Championships
Eliana Juarez made GHS history by qualifying for the IHSA Girls State Wrestling Championships in Bloomington, held Feb. 28–March 1. She posted a 20–5 season record at 115 pounds and earned 4th place overall in her bracket.
Her performance is a sign of the continued growth of girls wrestling at GHS.

🏅 Boys Swimming & Diving: Winter IHSA 2025 State Finals
The Galesburg Boys Swimming & Diving team competed at the IHSA State Championships in Westmont, placing 29th out of more than 100 schools and scoring 12 team points.
Carson Olson broke a school record in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing 9th with a time of 1:51.95. He also placed 14th in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 50.00 seconds.

🏅 Track & Field: Spring 2025 IHSA State Championships
The Girls Track and Field team finished strong at the state finals, held May 22–24 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Ella, Grace and Taylor Herchenroder (sophomore triplets) and Lily Furrow placed 5th in Class 2A with a time of 4:01.26.
Furrow also finished 9th in the triple jump (11.20 meters), and Grace Herchenroder placed 19th in the 300-meter hurdles (47.52 seconds).

🧢 Coaching Farewells
The 2024–25 swim season marked the end of an era, as longtime coaches Ray VanHootegem and Tami Qualls retired. Under their leadership, GHS swimming saw four undefeated seasons and three straight conference titles. Their legacy will be hard to match.
