The Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education is seeking input from families, staff and community members as it begins the search for the district’s next superintendent.

The search follows the announced retirement of Superintendent John Asplund, effective June 30, 2027. District officials said the next leader will be expected to continue student-centered growth and build on recent facility improvements and financial stability.

The board has launched a community survey to help develop a leadership profile for the next superintendent. All responses will remain confidential, according to the district.

“Our schools will develop the potential of students in a safe, equitable and engaging learning environment, which advances high performance and excellence for all,” the district’s mission statement reads.

Board President Courtney Rodriguez said the district plans to gather input throughout the process.

“We look forward to engaging with our internal and external stakeholders throughout this comprehensive and transparent process,” Rodriguez said.
