Girls track and field: Furrow, relay teams pace GHS at WB6 championships

Galesburg finished seventh with 54.5 points at the Western Big 6 Conference girls track and field championships, highlighted by Lily Furrow’s win in the triple jump and a first-place finish in the 4×400 relay.
Rock Island won the team title with 170 points, followed by Geneseo with 120 and Sterling with 99.5. Moline finished fourth with 97, East Moline United fifth with 77 and Quincy sixth with 68. Rock Island Alleman was eighth with 15.
Furrow won the triple jump at 10.74 meters and added a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 48.79 seconds. She also ran on Galesburg’s winning 4×400 relay team with Ella Herchenroder, Taylor Herchenroder and Grace Herchenroder, which finished in 4:05.08.
Grace Herchenroder added two individual top-five finishes. She placed fourth in the 300 hurdles in 48.47 and fifth in the high jump at 1.48 meters.
The Silver Streaks also had a strong showing in the relays. The 4×200 relay team of Ella Herchenroder, Taylor Herchenroder, Rachelle McCellan and Ava Marty placed second in 1:48.09. The same group finished fourth in the 4×100 relay in 1:03.00. The 4×800 relay team of Grae Boone, Keerah Cooper, Camdyn Miller and Izzy Kennedy was sixth in 11:15.16.
Furrow placed fifth in the long jump at 5.25 meters, while Ella Herchenroder was eighth at 5.01. McCellan added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at 9.87 meters.
Taylor Herchenroder placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds. McCellan finished 11th in the 200 in 28.54, and Kalei Rice was 10th in the 400 in 1:05.44.
Up next: Galesburg is scheduled to compete in the IHSA sectional May 13 at Mendota. Field events are scheduled for 2 p.m., with running events beginning at 4:15 p.m.
Baseball: Galesburg rallies late to beat Rock Island 9-4
Galesburg scored nine runs over the final two innings May 6 to rally past host Rock Island 9-4 in Western Big 6 Conference baseball.
The Silver Streaks trailed 4-0 after five innings before scoring four runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh. The win improved Galesburg to 9-17 overall and 6-6 in the WB6.
Caden Riley gave Galesburg a strong start on the mound, striking out 11 in 5 2/3 innings. Riley allowed four unearned runs on three hits and two walks. Noah Nalley earned the win in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two over 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Galesburg finished with nine hits and drew nine walks. Hayden Ralston went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Drew Hickey added a hit, two runs and two RBIs, while Caleb Claeys went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Grady Hickey, Nalley, Nicolas Ojeda and Alfred Ayala each added one hit. Easton Pickrel scored twice and reached base three times on walks.
Rock Island scored three runs in the first inning and added another in the fifth before Galesburg’s comeback. The Rocks were held to four hits.
Up next: Galesburg is scheduled to play in the St. Joseph-Ogden Invitational on May 9. The Silver Streaks will face Reed-Custer at 12:15 p.m. and St. Joseph-Ogden at 2:30 p.m.
Softball: Galesburg edges Moline 10-9 for first WB6 win
Taylor Lee homered twice and Galesburg held off a late Moline rally for a 10-9 Western Big 6 Conference softball win May 7 in Moline.
The Silver Streaks scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-6 lead, then survived Moline’s three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. The win snapped Galesburg’s three-game losing streak and gave the Silver Streaks their first WB6 victory of the season. Galesburg improved to 5-20 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
Lee went 4-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs to lead Galesburg’s 13-hit attack. She also earned the win in the circle, allowing nine runs, six earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

Galesburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Moline answered with two runs in the bottom half. The Silver Streaks moved back in front with three runs in the third and added two more in the fourth for a 6-2 lead.
Moline scored four runs in the sixth to tie the game, but Galesburg responded with its four-run seventh inning.
Avayah Bridgewater added a home run and two RBIs for the Silver Streaks. Layla Shepler went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Mary Moore finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored. Mavery Bland doubled, scored and drove in a run. Evelin Guel and Hannah Barton each added one hit and one RBI.
Denaly Marceleno homered and drove in three runs for Moline, which fell to 9-16. Gianna DeLeon went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Payton Lilliman also had two hits.
Up next: Galesburg is scheduled to play at East Peoria at 6:30 p.m. May 11 before returning to WB6 play at Alleman on May 12 and at Rock Island on May 14.
Girls soccer: Alleman shuts out Galesburg 5-0

Galesburg was shut out by Alleman 5-0 in a Western Big 6 Conference girls soccer match May 7 at Augustana’s Thorson-Lucken Field.
The loss dropped the Silver Streaks to 8-8-1 overall and 1-6 in the WB6. Galesburg is seventh in the conference standings.
Alleman’s individual scoring statistics were not available.
The Silver Streaks have lost two straight but still hold a 57-48 scoring edge this season. Galesburg is 7-4 on the road, 1-4-1 at home and 0-0 in neutral-site matches.
Up next: Galesburg is scheduled to host Canton in a game rescheduled from March 28 at 11 a.m. May 9. The Silver Streaks play at Bloomington Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. May 11 before hosting Macomb at 4:30 p.m. May 12.
