Galesburg Community News has obtained additional details about a November 2025 two-vehicle crash that later turned deadly — and the felony charges now filed against one of the drivers, Ashley N. England, 32.

First responders were called at 9:17 a.m. Nov. 22 to the 1300 block of South Lake Storey Road for a report of a crash with injuries. When officers arrived, they found a 2010 Mazda3 and a 2016 Subaru Forester with both drivers unresponsive.

The driver of the Mazda was identified as England. The Subaru driver was identified as 72-year-old Marte Glass.

According to a Galesburg Police Department accident report, England’s vehicle was found turned sideways on the north side of the road, while Glass’ vehicle was turned sideways on the south side, partially in the ditch. Both vehicles showed heavy front-end damage, and investigators noted divots in the grass near 1440 S. Lake Storey Road.

Rescue personnel removed both drivers from their vehicles. Glass received CPR at the scene. Both women were transported by ambulance and then flown by life flight to a Peoria hospital.

Investigators determined, based on marks and debris at the scene, that England was traveling westbound and “drove significantly over the center line,” colliding head-on with Glass’ eastbound vehicle, according to the report.

Inside England’s vehicle, officers reported finding multiple bags of syringes, a syringe containing a clear liquid and a flashlight with a “grain-like residue.” A field test indicated the liquid contained amphetamines; later Illinois State Police forensic testing confirmed it was methamphetamine. Medical personnel also found two baggies on England — one containing suspected cannabis and another containing a white crystallized substance, each weighing 1.6 grams.

Toxicology showed England had methamphetamine and cannabis in her system at the time of the crash, the report stated.

Glass died from her injuries at 3:17 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Peoria hospital.

On Dec. 23, a warrant was issued for England on charges of aggravated DUI involving death, reckless homicide, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.

England was taken into custody at 10:15 a.m. the same day by Illinois State Police as she was being released from a Peoria facility. She was booked into the Knox County Jail later that afternoon. On Dec. 26, a judge denied pretrial release. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 13.

At the time of the crash, court records show England was already facing multiple drug-related cases stemming from 2024 and 2025 arrests. She previously served a prison term after violating drug court probation on a methamphetamine conviction.

History of drug-related charges

  • March 1, 2022: Charged with Class 3 felony retail theft over $300 and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance. Charges were dropped July 27, 2022.
  • May 31, 2022: Charged with Class 3 felony meth possession under 5 grams, misdemeanor DUI/drugs and unlawful cannabis possession in a vehicle. On July 27, 2022, she pleaded guilty to meth possession and received 30 months of drug court probation. On May 24, 2023, she was re-sentenced to three years in prison.
  • Dec. 18, 2024: Charged with Class 3 felony meth possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Oct. 15, 2025: Charged with Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.
  • Nov. 7, 2025: Charged with misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle.

Court proceedings in the current case remain ongoing.
