
⚽ Men’s Soccer: Sandburg 3, Black Hawk 2
Alberto Fernandez Do scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to complete Carl Sandburg’s comeback from a two-goal deficit and hand the Chargers a 3-2 home victory Oct. 8 over Black Hawk College.
Black Hawk took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Sandburg began its rally midway through the second half on a Valentin Kretschmer goal at the 65-minute mark. Kretschmer followed with his second goal at 78:00.
The rally lifted the Chargers (9-2-2) to their sixth straight win, and they remained unbeaten in their last seven matches, improving to 6-0-2 during that stretch. Sandburg’s last loss came more than a month ago, a 3-1 defeat Sept. 8 at Truman.
Sandburg is 9-2-2 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference play. The Chargers are at Moraine Valley Community College Oct. 11, then return home for an Oct. 14 match with Illinois Valley Community College. The regular season ends with home matches Oct. 17 versus Kishwaukee College and Oct. 21 against Wilbur Wright College.
🏐 Volleyball: Highland 3, Sandburg 1
Highland Community College topped Carl Sandburg 3-1 in an Oct. 8 volleyball match at Freeport.
The Scotties took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17 before the Chargers rallied in the third set 25-16. Highland prevailed in a tough fourth set, 25-22.
Harlee Hainds had 10 kills for the Chargers, and Addison Gillen led in digs with 12.
Carl Sandburg will participate in the Madison College Quad on Oct. 10 in Madison, Wisconsin. The team will be at Illinois Valley on Oct. 15.
