Galesburg’s Walker places fourth in high jump at Class 2A state meet

Galesburg High School’s Antwon Walker placed fourth in the high jump May 30 at the IHSA Class 2A Boys State Track and Field Championships at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Field in Charleston.

Walker cleared 1.98 meters in the finals after clearing 1.90 meters in the May 29 preliminaries.

The Silver Streaks had several other competitors in the field event finals. Daxton Eastburg finished 13th in the shot put with a throw of 15.81 meters, while Cale Johnson was 33rd in the discus at 42.29 meters.

In the triple jump, Rakim McCellan finished 18th with a jump of 13.03 meters, and Shawn Taylor placed 31st at 12.61 meters.

Galesburg competed in two relay preliminaries. The 4×100-meter relay team of Richard “Reed” Schleich, Kevin Phillips, Demetrius Watson and McCellan finished 27th in 43.40 seconds. The 4×400 relay team of Schleich, Phillips, Weston Anderton and Praise Nwagbo placed 19th in 3:25.54.
