HENDERSON COUNTY, Ill. — Henderson County officials will continue work this week on updating the county’s Multi-Jurisdictional All Hazards Mitigation Plan, which is required for eligibility for certain federal disaster funding programs.
A public planning meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 12 at the Henderson County Health Department, 208 W. Elm St., Gladstone. The meeting replaces a March 10 session that was canceled because of severe weather.
According to Henderson County Emergency Management and Zoning Officer Cindy Brown, the county’s current hazard mitigation plan was adopted in 2019 and is set to expire in 2026. The update is being completed through a FEMA grant administered by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension.
Extension educator Russell Medley said the meeting will serve as a working session where incorporated communities and organizations can identify potential mitigation and resiliency projects for inclusion in the updated plan. Schools, hospitals, health departments and social service agencies are also encouraged to participate.
Brown said projects must be included in the updated plan to remain eligible for FEMA or IEMA funding opportunities.
All Henderson County residents are invited to attend.
