Monmouth College adds computer science concentrations

By Galesburg Community News    April 15, 2026

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College will introduce three new concentrations in its computer science program this fall: cybersecurity, applied artificial intelligence and web development.

College officials said the additions are part of a partnership with Rize Education and are intended to align coursework with in-demand technology fields.

Demand for workers in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence-related fields continues to grow, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The cybersecurity track will focus on protecting digital systems, while the applied artificial intelligence concentration will combine theory with practical applications. The web development track will emphasize building digital platforms and products.

Computer science professor Logan Mayfield said the partnership will expand course offerings and provide more specialized training options for students.

The new concentrations are part of the college’s broader effort to connect academic programs with workforce needs, officials said.
