
Galesburg’s boys track and field team edged Geneseo 82.6-71.4 on April 13, while the Silver Streaks’ girls fell 83-60 in a dual meet.
The boys were powered by depth in distance races, relays and field events, while the girls earned multiple first-place finishes on the track and in the hurdles.
For the boys, Charles Anderton won the 800 meters in 2:13.20 and the 1,600 in 5:09.10. Logan Ryner added a win in the 3,200 (12:13.30), and Antwon Walker cleared 1.98 meters to win the high jump.
Rahkim McCellan won the triple jump at 12.40 meters, while Reed Schleich took first in the 200 in 22.60.
Galesburg also won the 4×100-, 4×200- and 4×800-meter relays.
The Silver Streaks showed depth in the 800, taking the top three spots with Anderton, Xaiden Seaton and Franklin Hilligoss. They also swept the top three places in the 1,600 and triple jump.
The girls were led by Ella Herchenroder, who won the 100 in 12.70 and the 200 in 26.70, and Izzy Kennedy, who won the 400 in 1:05.90.
Rebekah Descalzo won the 1,600 in 6:45.20, while Keerah Cooper swept the hurdles, winning the 100 in 18.10 and the 300 in 51.50.
Galesburg also won the 4×200-, 4×400- and 4×800-meter relays.
Other top efforts included Grae Boone’s runner-up finish in the 800, Camdyn Miller’s third-place finish in the same event, Grace Herchenroder’s runner-up finish in the high jump and Ella Herchenroder’s second-place finish in the long jump.

The boys will host the Streaks Invitational and Senior Night at 4 p.m. April 17. The girls return to action at the Rock Island Invite on April 18. Events begin at 10 a.m.
Galesburg snapped a nine-game losing streak April 13 with a 4-0 Western Big 6 Conference win at Alleman, riding a dominant complete-game effort from TJ Heatherly and a home run from Hayden Ralston.
Heatherly threw a one-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking none over seven innings as the Silver Streaks picked up their first conference victory.
Galesburg improved to 3-13 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Silver Streaks scored two runs in the third inning, added one in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Ralston went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, while Gabe Irizarry went 1-for-2, scored twice and stole two bases. Henry Ikrami doubled and drove in a run, and Noah Nalley added an RBI.
Galesburg finished with five hits and used aggressive baserunning to keep pressure on Alleman.
Alleman managed just one hit against Heatherly, who faced 25 batters and needed 76 pitches to finish the shutout.
Adam VanMeighem took the loss for Alleman, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits over six innings.
Galesburg committed three errors but did not allow a run.
The Silver Streaks will host Alleman at 4:30 p.m. April 15 before hosting Washington at 4:30 p.m. April 17.

The Knox College men’s golf team finished second out of 10 teams at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Spring Invite on April 11-12.
The Prairie Fire posted a two-round total of 620 (52 over par), opening with a 304 before shooting 316 in windy conditions Sunday.
Pranav Nandakumar led Knox with an eighth-place finish at 10 over par, shooting 76 in both rounds for a 152 total.

Gabe Newman placed ninth at 11 over after rounds of 73 and 80.
Nathaniel Zug tied for 12th at 13 over (78-77), Saransh Raina tied for 23rd at 18 over, and Jaxson Forman placed 33rd (78-87—165). Sho Kuroda finished 55th (113-101—214).
Knox returns to action April 18-19 at the Earlham College Invite.
Monmouth defeats Knox in extra innings
Knox College and Monmouth College played another extra-inning game to close their three-game series, but this time Monmouth prevailed with a 10-6 win in 11 innings on April 13.
The result came two days after Knox won a 14-inning game.
Monmouth scored four runs in the 11th inning. Knox loaded the bases in the bottom half, but a called third strike ended the game.
Monmouth scored single runs in the first and second innings before Knox answered in the second on a home run by Clayton Rice. Owen Shannon later added a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Monmouth scored three runs in the fourth, but Knox responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Shannon drove in a run with a single.
Joe Flores kept Knox in the game in relief, allowing one run over five innings.
Knox rallied in the eighth when, after Shannon and Nicholas Nitti reached base, Luke Mathieu hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 6-6.
Both teams were scoreless in the ninth and 10th before Monmouth broke through in the 11th.
Knox will play at Beloit at 1 p.m. April 15, then host Lawrence for a doubleheader April 18 and a game April 19.
