Galesburg firefighters rescued a person from a house fire Sunday morning.
Crews were called to 1025 Lincoln St. at 11:42 a.m. Jan. 4 and arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a first-floor window, according to the Galesburg Fire Department. All three city fire stations, with 12 firefighters on duty, responded.
Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett established command at the scene. The Brooks Street crew entered the home with a hose line and located a victim inside, while crews from the Fremont and Central stations helped remove the person from the structure. Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service transported the victim to OSF St. Mary Medical Center. No additional details about the person’s condition were released.
Firefighters also located two cats inside the home and attempted to resuscitate them, but the animals did not survive, officials said.
The fire was extinguished, and damage was found throughout the structure. Investigators determined the cause was unintentional.
Because of the incident, off-duty personnel were called back to provide additional emergency coverage for the city.
