Carl Sandburg College

Volleyball: Sauk Valley 3, Sandburg 0
Carl Sandburg College dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Sauk Valley on Oct. 22, falling by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-20.

Abigail Shaffer led the Chargers with nine kills and 13 digs. Addison Gillen, Jalie Eller and Macy Nolan each added 10 digs.

Sandburg will compete in the Parkland Region Crossover in Champaign on Oct. 24–25. The Chargers face Heartland at 2 p.m. and Lincoln Land at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24, followed by Parkland at 11 a.m. and Illinois Central at 3 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Knox College

Volleyball: Monmouth 3, Knox 0
The Knox College volleyball team fell in straight sets at local rival Monmouth College on Oct. 22, as the Fighting Scots (8-12, 2-2 Midwest Conference) won their final home match of the season, 25-8, 25-11, 25-17. The Prairie Fire dropped to 3-23 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Playing without one of its top offensive weapons, sophomore Maria Jabor Jahn, and senior libero Sam Black, Knox struggled to generate momentum. Monmouth posted its highest attack percentage of the season at .344, finishing with 37 kills and just four errors.

First-year setter Kayleigh Jones had four kills and a block against local rival Monmouth on Oct. 22.

Kayleigh Jones led Knox with a season-high four kills and was the only Prairie Fire player with a positive attack percentage. Holland and sophomore Zoe Thunhurst each recorded 12 digs.

Knox has more than a week off before its next match at Grinnell College (9-12, 3-1) on Oct. 31.

Women’s soccer: Elmhurst 3, Knox 0
On a chilly evening at Elmhurst University’s Langhorst Field, the Knox College women’s soccer team lost its final nonconference game of the season, falling 3-0 to the host Bluejays (10-5-2). The Prairie Fire dropped to 3-9-3.

Elmhurst outshot Knox 24-4 and put 15 shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Bri Mahoney made a career-high 12 saves for Knox.

This was the fifth meeting between the two schools since 2010, with Elmhurst winning all five.

Knox will look to snap a 27-game Midwest Conference winless streak when it travels to Cornell College on Oct. 28.
