A parent was banned from Galesburg Junior-Senior High School for the remainder of the school year during a hearing at a special meeting of Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 on Oct. 6.
The parent, Kristopher Garner, will not be allowed access to all school district property through June 15 after a unanimous vote by board members. The original ban recommendation had been for one year.
The ban, according to testimony during the hearing, is the result of an incident that occurred on Sept. 8 at the high school that began with a parking violation by his daughter.
According to testimony presented at the hearing, Garner became aggressive and abusive toward district staff and was asked to leave the property.
Following the testimony, board member and Secretary Maury Lyon suggested that the ban be reduced from one full year to the remainder of the current school year, which the board approved.
